Suddenly at my site some PCs were getting “Internal error 0xfffffa27” errors while trying to login. At first, I had the staff disable NMAS (bad idea) to stop the error. I latter learned that stopping NMAS on the PC also stopped DirXML from syncing passwords.

In TID 3576402 the issue of the “Internal error 0xfffffa27” is covered. One point of the TID is not fully clear to me. The states that creating a reg key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\NICI with a keyname of EnableUserProfileDirectory using a Type=DWORD and a value of 1 will help.

My question is; what would be the effect of pushing this reg key setting to all computers to possibly eliminating the “Internal error 0xfffffa27” before it happens?

All of the PCs are Win2k SP2. We are running Netware 6.5 (sp6,sp7) and Linux OES2.
