Hi everyone,
Yet another fun little OES2 problem ive found...

Trying to get the Novell DNS to start on my new OES2 box, managed to get it configured through iManager (supposedly) and iManager won't start it, giving some massive ugly java exception error (too big to post here). Ive had a similar problem with the DHCP and it was because it wasn't installed properly.

So have proceeded to install the DNS onto the OES2 box, silly me thinking this would be a simple and straightforward process, was I wrong...

Have got LDAP listening on port 389, not sure about 636 though. Have tried making DNS point to the existing NW6 box for LDAP authentication to no avail, pointed it to new OES2 box to no avail. The error message i've got from yast is all but useless 'Failed to configure and start DNS server'

Upon trawling /var/log/messages I find:
nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - DSA is unavailable

Nothing much in the way of reference in the documentation to this, seems like a nice litle 'gotcha!' to me. ALl the DNS contexts and servers are set up as they should be in Yast, but alas still no go....

Someone else must have run into this Gotcha! as well as just me, any takers?

'New to OES2 and increasingly frustrated'...
