our "old" workstations are windows xp sp2, fully MS patched with NW client
4.91sp1 and symantec SAV CE 10.1.4&5
our "new" workstations are windows xp sp2, fully MS patched with NW client
4.91 sp4 and symantec SEP 11.0 mr2
all settings on both configurations are comparable for as well symantec as
well as netware client. tests are performed on the same PC

we have an application that, when initializing has to read certain info from
~1000 mostly small files in 1 directory, before presenting the gui to the
user. on the old workstation it takes < 25 seconds, on the new workstation
it takes almost 2 minutes
any post sp4 patches on the new workstation makes no significant difference.
savce 10.1.5 on the new workstation makes no significant difference. client
4.91 sp1 on the new workstation speeds things up to the level of the old
workstation.

a network trace shows lots of redundant traffic on the new workstation: the
capture file is 5 to 7 MB on the old workstation, en 48 to 68 MB on the new
workstation

any suggestions are welcome, please
