Good day all,

I'm having a bit of an installation issue with a new server we purchased.
Ultimately, it's going to replace one of our older servers, but until I get
this problem resolved, it's a great, big paperweight!

IBM x3400
ServeRAID-8k
4 - 500 Gig SATA drives [1 TB RAID-5 with single hot spare]
4 Gig RAM

The driver for the ServeRAID-8k controller, from what I can find on both
IBM's and Novell's websites, is the AACRAID.HAM file. This driver file is
part of the install set on the CD, but to remain current from the start, I
made sure I had the latest and greatest from IBM. However, none of the
versions I have tried will work, the driver fails to load with the following
error [all three versions listed]:

**from the install CD
Loading module AACRAID.HAM
Adaptec SCSI RAID for NetWare. v4.0-0 (5767)
Version 4.00 October 17, 2002
Copyright 1998-2002 Adaptec, Inc. All rights reserved.
SERVER-5.70-1553: Module initialization failed.
Module AACRAID.HAM NOT loaded
Module AACRAID.HAM load status INIT FAIL

** from SP6 ["tested and approved" by Novell]
Loading module AACRAID.HAM
Adaptec SCSI RAID for NetWare. v5.1-0 (9215)
Version 5.10 April 24, 2006
Copyright 1998-2006 Adaptec, Inc. All rights reserved.
SERVER-5.70-1553: Module initialization failed.
Module AACRAID.HAM NOT loaded
Module AACRAID.HAM load status INIT FAIL

** latest version from IBM
Loading module AACRAID.HAM
Adaptec SCSI RAID for NetWare. v5.2-0 (11892)
Version 5.20 August 23, 2007
Copyright 1998-2006 Adaptec, Inc. All rights reserved.
SERVER-5.70-1553: Module initialization failed.
Module AACRAID.HAM NOT loaded
Module AACRAID.HAM load status INIT FAIL

Obviously, the same error each time, with different versions of the driver.
The only thing I have "control" over is the slot number being used, every
attempt, the system suggests that I use slot 10031. Is this where the
problem is? If so, how do I know which slot number to use?

I welcome any and all suggestions!

Thanks,

NormC
