This morning I received word from a man I served with it Viet Nam and
at my last command in the Navy has Stage IV lung cancer. He was
diagnosed yesterday, via needle biopsy. CT scan and PET scan are
scheduled with chemo starting next week. The treatment will depend on
how he responds, as always in cases like this.

This makes 6 of my 22 comrades who have come down with cancer. It's
starting to push the stats a bit. He had no idea that anything was
wrong, except for pain in his chest that was present on about a week.
He thought he'd pulled a muscle. He has not had a regular chest x-ray
or physical, which may have caught this at an earlier stage.
