We are running XP Pro SP2 clients. We direct our My Documents and Favorites folders to a mapped network drive so that users can access their data regardless of machine. Since our users are in the "Users" group, they have limited rights, and therefore when we push applications through Zenworks or even Windows Update Services, they must run under the System context. The System account does not have access to mapped drives. This causes a problem with MSIs as most of them want to check for the presence of the user shell folders/shell folders directories which are not available when running under System. The only workaround that I could think of is to use a Zen object to run a subst command to create an alias that will redirect the network path to the C: drive. The object runs under System so it would not impact any other users. Is there any other "cleaner" solution to fixing this problem while using the folder redirection?
