Hi, everyone..

I'm hoping for some advice. I just upgraded a BM server today, it had
been
running NW6 SP1 plus some patches as well as BM 3.7 plus patches,
current as
of one year ago. This is a dual-processor P-III 1.1GHz machine with
2GB RAM
and a RAID2 array. There are 10 Cache volumes (all traditional) of
~2GB each
on the RAID. I upgraded the server to NW6 SP3 plus the current
recommened
patches, and that seemed to go well. (I disabled the loading of BM
during
the OS upgrade).

Then I applied BM37SP2, plus BM37FP3B. When I loaded the proxy, the
proxy
screen would go through its normal check of the DNS cache, and then
the
initialization of the cache volumes. Then it would hang. Processor
utilization on processor 0 was pegged at 100%. The logger screen shows
that
all elements of BM loaded OK except proxy.nlm and proxycfg.nlm which
never
return a result. ACLCHeck goes through its motions and finally reads
its
rules, but proxy never finishes loading. Attempting to shut down the
server
gracefully will not work; I had to do a hard reset.

I tried using Craig's proxy.cfg file, loading proxy with -cc option
(which
cleared the cache fine, but proxy still hung after that), no joy. I
also
could not find reference to the same problem in the knowledgebase or
on the
forum. Finally I removed BM37sp2 using the .BAK files and the old
proxy then
loaded normally!!

I also found two weird things after this: I had to rewrite the NTP
filter
exception due to the dynamic port usage on the SP3 TimeSync. When I
did this
I noted that BOTH Interfaces on the server were defined in FiltCFG asprivate?? I corrected this.

Anyone have any ideas as to what may be wrong? I'm willing to leave
the
server as is if needed since the only problems we had were with
SurfControl
updates (and this one is well known).. This server is the busiest
here,
serving Internet traffic for 5 schools! Any reason I should try SP2
again?

Thanks
