Just after "reset server" is enter on my NetWare 6.5 sp8 / eDir 8.8.x
servers, the following messages are displayed and the server hangs and
will not finish shutting down/rebooting:

Java: Cleaning up resources, Please Wait.
Java: Continuing to clean up resources in the background.

From monitor.nlm, my cpu goes to 33%. I have left this alone for over
30 minutes and still hung.

It does not matter whether the server is running the APC power modules,
what that configuration is. All my servers are Dell PowerEdge servers.
This has been an issue since NW 5.1 and through all Support packs for
6.5. My servers are ldap only setups. The hand occurs after several
hours of ldap load.

I use a reset.ncf script that lives in my c:\nwserver folder that
performs the following (between the ----- lines):

------------
?unload conlog
?unload dssnmpsa
?unload hostmib
?unload nldap

?java -shutdownall
?java -killall

?disable login
?clear station all

set timesync debug = 7
set timesync debug = 0
set dstrace = off

?cls
nss /forcedeactivate=all
?cls
nss /pooldeactivate=all
?cls

?RESET SERVER
------------

This file is an effort (over the years) to find the magic bullet that
will allow me to successfully reboot my ldap servers.

If nothing else, can someone answer what is happening when the following
message appears:

Java: Cleaning up resources, Please Wait.
Java: Continuing to clean up resources in the background.
