My question is - do they need to match? Is it likely to break stuff if they dont? Specifically the reason I wonder is around server to server ID transfer (Source being Netware 6.5 destination being OES2 Linux SP1).

I will do some basic testing to see what happens - but it (without thinking too hard) occurs to me that not having to change the Linux OS host name would make things easier. On the other hand, if the Novell management tools for OES2 Linux assume that the Linux OS host name and OES2 (eDir) server name will be the same, it could be messy.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has done this and how it worked out.
