Background - Running Netware 6 SP3 and BM3.7 SP2. Server has one
public and one private
interface. BM is configured for Transparent HTTP proxy and NAT is not
being used.

Filter Exceptions are configured for DNS (UDP53) stateful as follows:

INTRFACE:PRIVATE IP:10.0.0.234, IP:pid=UDP port=53 srcport=<All>
stfilt=1,
INTRFACE:<Any>, Allow DNS for GWIA

INTRFACE:PRIVATE, IP:pid=UDP port=53 srcport=<All> stfilt=1,
INTRFACE:<Any>, Allow
DNS Access out-delete after transparent is turned off.

INTRFACE:PUBLIC IP:99.99.99.99, IP:pid=UDP port=53 srcport=<All>
stfilt=1,
INTRFACE:<Any>, Added by Novell BorderManager 3.7 Install

(IP addresses have been munged for this forum however, the Public IP
is indeed set to the
correct IP of the BM Public interface.)

Problem - With this configuration DNS resolution works fine. All hosts
on the network are able
to resolve DNS names either directly from the external DNS servers or
via DNS proxy on BM.

However, DNS names cannot be resolved at the BM console itself.
Pinging an external
hostname fails to resolve the name. NTP on border fails when
configured with hostnames
rather than IP addresses. Only border itself cannot resolve names for
itself. Yet it doesn't seem
to have any problem resolving names for clients. If filters are
unloaded BM can resolve DNS
names without a problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
