In our environment users login with a user alias object that is in the form of first.lastname. This alias object references an 8 character posix user object.

We are using Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7.

Our Issue:
We configure or tree, context, and server values in the Novell profile. Then we log into the workstation. After logging into the workstation, we lock the workstations. When we attempt to unlock the workstation we receive the error message bellow after attempting to authenticate to Novell. Once this failure occurs, the user is then prompted with a workstation login. One thing to note is that although the user logs into the workstation with the alias object account, the account that is listed when trying to authenticate after locking the system is the dereferenced user object.

Error Message:
"The network password cannot be validated at this time because the connection to the Novell network was lost. Please enter the password for the Windows account to unlock the computer now, or wait and try the network password again later.

Temporary Workaround:
We can work around this issue by leaving the tree, context, and server fields blank in our Novell profile and checking to save profile after successful login. However, this requires the user to select the correct tree, context, and server at least once. This setup would not work in a public lab scenario.
