What is the exact relationship between the QuickFinder indexing and the Document Conversion Agent?

The way I understand it, the QF indexing is what allows searching on messages in a person's mailbox while the DCA is what opens attachments to allow the text of the file to be indexed. If this is correct, then if DCA is turned off but QF is left on, people would still be able to search but only on subject/date/sender/message but not on attachment text. Is this correct?

We are still fighting issues with GWDCA abends, even with PDF's excluded, and I'm contemplating turning off GWDCA altogether but didn't want to break regular searches in the process.
