The time has finally come. We've received our new hardware, software and are now planning our move. I wanted to touch base with the forums to see if an idea I have is worth moving forward with.

Our Current Setup:

Server 4

------------------------------------------

New Setup (Proposed)

Server 1
SLES 10 SP3, OES 2 SP2, basic file/print
40 users
Replica TBD

Server 2
SLES 10 SP3, OES 2 SP2, basic file/print
25 users
Replica TBD

Server 3

Goals

- We want to reorganize our eDirectory tree structure to include 1 Organization object with OU objects below it. Currently, our tree consists of 4 Organization units and it's effecting our ability to use LDAP with 3rd party software/hardware.

- Move to new hardware (ESXi environment)

------------------------------------------

Completed Steps

- We've already setup our ESXi environment which includes an EqualLogic SAN

- VMs for SLES 10 SP3 have been setup, installed, and updated

------------------------------------------

Questions

- Would it be easier to simply add the new servers to the tree with different names (we'd like to update our naming convention too) and move users/data to the new servers?

- Or should we use the migration utility and let it handle the move/retirement of old servers?

- Perhaps a little bit of both?
