We're running into some intermittent issues with users being unable to
login to iFolder 3.8 with the client for the first time. It does not
seem to affect users that have already logged in once. The client
eventually times out and then shows an error

"An error was encountered while connecting to the iFolder server.
Please verify the information entered and try again. If the problem
persists, please contact your network administrator."

Sometimes we can resolve this error by restarting apache on the server.
We have also been able to reduce the frequency of occurrence by adding
these two lines to /etc/apache2/conf.d/simias.conf:

MonoMaxActiveRequests simias10 200
MonoMaxWaitingRequests simias10 200

The default was 20, and we were seeing these frequently fill up and give
the following error in the /var/log/apache2/error.log:

[Wed Jun 23 09:19:00 2010] [error] Maximum number of concurrent mod_mono
requests to /tmp/mod_mono_dashboard_simias10_4.lock reached (20 active,
20 waiting). Request dropped.

We also added "MonoSetEnv MONO_THREADS_PER_CPU=2000" to

This is a VM, so we increased the CPU's from 1 to 4. We also increased
the RAM from 4GB to 8GB.

We have also rasied the ServerLimit and MaxClients from 150 to 1024 in

These actions have basically bought us more time between the login
failure mentioned above, which seems to be limited to "first time"
logins. e.g. once the iFolder client on a given workstation has logged
in, we don't see the problem when the client needs to login again. In
some cases, restarting apache will relieve this issue, but in a few
cases, no matter what we do, we can't get the clients to log in.

Are there some tuning/troubleshooting guidelines for large iFolder
systems? This one currently has about 400 users, but the plan is to
have about 1,400 when we finish migrating to it.

Does anyone have a large iFolder 3.8 system up and running? What other
tuning/configuration settings do I need to make? This server is
dedicated to iFolder and is running OpenSuSE 11.1 with the latest
iFolder 3.8 / mono packages.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions!
