We updated two weeks ago from Win7 Client 2 SP1 IR1 to IR2.

We re-enter the same server and client settings as previously used successfully for years with Client 4.91.

Netware 6.5 SP8 Server Parameters – NCP: Set Level 2 OpLocks Enabled = ON

Windows 7 64 bits Novell Client Parameters: File caching OFF, File Commit ON

This solved actually many troubles we observed previously. No more BSOD, nccache.sys error, login problems, Access and Foxpro database files locked or corrupted, etc...

In our case, overall Client behaviour has been improved a lot woth IR2.
However we have now a new problem with Access 2003 (SP3). Sometimes when we try to save an existing Excel file, we have an Excel message related to time stamp:
The file (filename.xls) may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy or Overwrite changes

As in MS kb, we set QFE_Saskatchewan to 2, but without success, see You receive a "The file may have been changed" error message when you save a workbook to a network server in Excel 2002 or in Excel 2003

With time stamp check disabled, QFE_Saskatchewan set to 1, we don’t’ see the message anymore, but this is not acceptable solution.

After few tests we think this is directly related to Novell Client and not to Excel or Windows 7.

Any suggestions or remarks?
