We have all read the Novell TID recommending multiple cache volumes, but
the recommendation appears dated when it refers to 8GB arrays. In a recent
post Craig stated that he was leaning towards a single 8GB volume. The
problem with all of the recommendations that I have seen is that they
don't do much to justify themselves apart from being "best practice". They
have very little in the way of reasoning behind them, that I can see.

What are the real benefits of using multiple volumes?
Is it better to have a single 8GB volume?
If you were building a new network today, how would you configure your
head office proxy? How would you configure your branch office proxies?
Is my network going to collapse in a screaming heap if I use a single 8GB
volume instead of 3-4 smaller ones?
