I have configured SAMBA to act as domain LMN controller on a server with ip address and name lauva. Tis is a OES2 server, where SAMBA things are created with wizard. I have configured e-Directory and LDAP, that allow SAMBA to use e-Directory as repository for required stuff - user and registered computer database. This computer is also a WINS server, but there are no DNS servers in this network. I can join domain a computer, that is within broadcast domain of a network. Test box with address joined immediately.

There are no firewalls in between parties.

But now the problem:

I can not join the LMN domain a computer, that is located somewhere. For better understanding - IP address of remote comp is and I get response, that domain controller of LMN can not be contacted. On that 40.44 computer I edited lmhosts file and added domain predefinition entry: "LMN \0x1b" #PRE
Now nbtstat -c returns entries

Pinging, name resolution or any activities I can imagine, perform flawless.

When i try to join domain, i get response:

A domain controller for the domain LMN could not be contacted.

Details button explains:

The domain name LMN might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.

From c:\WINDOWS\Debug\NetSetup.LOG i got

07/29 14:54:31 NetpValidateName: checking to see if 'LMN' is valid as type 3 name
07/29 14:54:46 NetpCheckDomainNameIsValid for LMN returned 0x54b
07/29 14:54:46 NetpCheckDomainNameIsValid [ Exists ] for 'LMN' returned 0x54b

From logfile i see, that server has been elected as domain master for LMN domain.

Here is global section of SAMBA server config.

Can someone explain, why workstation can not join / contact or recognize domain?

Weirdest thing is that there is already a server with ip address with WINS (but for another domain named different) where everything performs fine.
