Ignoring the processor license method for a sec...

If I'm using MSSQL as the DB:

1) Do I need device CALs or user CALs?
2) How many of that type (device or user) of CAL do I need?

In these posts, you have people saying (1) CAL per Primary Server, which would make sense because they're the only ones directly connecting to the DB. But one of them mentions a user CAL -- why not a device CAL?

But then in this post, you have people saying you need (1) CAL for every user OR (1) CAL for every device. In that case, a device is EVERY workstation and Primary Server. Why is that required if the users and workstations are not actually connecting to the DB?

So...which is it? :)
