I'm not sure if this is the correct board to post this or not, as it involves multiple problems and questions.

We are in the process of trying to research implementing VDI in our organization to replace a large number of generic login workstations immediately and possibly in the future, most of the "base" office worker PCs.

Currently, we use the Novell Client (4.91sp5, I believe) and ZDM7 to manage our users/workstation, remotely assist users and provide network file storage/application deployment/etc.

We would like to replicate our current process if at all possible in a VDI solution WITHOUT the use of Active Directory or replacing our current processes with the (imo, less friendly) Microsoft alternatives.

With that in mind, here is our current process for workstation use
Pre-build template image with all baseline software installed, pack with sysprep and then image new workstations as needed, move them from default import location to appropriate eDir workstation container which applies various policies and application provisions for the use of the workstation. Users added as they login via DLU policies.

Can this be replicated using any currently available VDI solution without implementing Active Directory in some form or another? Is anyone actually doing anything similar? Any assistance you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
