We are running a NW 6.5 SP8 server with CIFS connections. We can connect with the NET Use command on both XP and WIN 7 boxes on our local network. These do NOT have the NW client on them. At a remote site with a WAN link to here, we cannot get CIFs to work without the NW Client. Connectivity is ok, we can ping and log in over the WAN with the regular NW client. Connecting via CIFs with the NET USE command to our NW 6.5 Server results in the following error: "System error 64 has occurred.
The specified network name is no longer available."

We also have a 2003 Windows server at our main office in the same network with a share enabled on it. Using the NET USE command with it from the branch office over the WAN works properly.

We need to use CIFs as the appliances on our WAN will do file compression and caching with CIFS but not with the NW client.
