It seems with each tree and each OS there is a new CIFS problem to be encountered. I have successfully installed and tests CIFS on several standalone OES servers and a test cluster.

In my latest adventure, CIFS has been installed on a physical server:

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2.0.2 (x86_64)
VERSION = 2.0.2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (x86_64)

eDirectory for Linux v8.8 SP5 [DS]

After installing CIFS, we need to add the CIFS scema extension as described here and add the nfapCIFSAttach and nfapCIFSServerName as described.

After rloading nldap and rcnovell-cifs the console reports CIFS is running, while iManager says that "CIFS is not currently running on this server." The cifsprox user account can login to the tree.

Meanwhile the logs are displaying the following:

May 27 12:21:04 cl7egw CIFS: ERROR: CODIR: GenParsePath has failed in function ScanBasicDirectoryTreeEvent
May 27 12:21:04 cl7egw CIFS: WARNING: CODIR: GenParsePath: Null/Empty String

We found that a line in ldap.conf (base = ou.context) was stopping ldap searching outside the specified container on the test configs, but once we sorted that out we've had no permission problems.
