OS X 10.7 (Lion) Still Broken for Secure iPrint

On OS X 10.7 (Lion) using iPrint Client v5.04 (current release) attempts to install a secure iPrint printer end in failure with the error message that the printer is unavailable. However if I use the same client v5.04 on OS X 10.6 it uccessfully installs the printer. There is another difference between using v5.04 on OS X 10.6 vs 10.7 : on 10.6 you get prompted for authentication as expected, but on 10.7 you do not get prompted for authentication.

Based on the client side log below it looks like there is a problem with the transition from an unsecure (http) connection to a secure connection on port 631. I'm thinking that this is a bug in Novell's iPrint Client for OS X. But since it only occurs on OS X 10.7 it would seem to be a bug that is triggered by CUPS (MyCupsDoFileRequest.c) which may be different on 10.6 vs 10.7. Just my guess though.

What is not a guess is that secure iPrint on 10.7 is not working and that is a real problem for institutions that charge end users for printing. Our OS X 10.7 clients are dead in the water.

Anybody here that can raise this issue with NTS/Engineering? Sorry that we do not have a support contract to do it ourselves.

Here is a snippet of the iPrint log showing exactly where the iPrint client fails on OS X 10.7:
