We have on OES11 sp1 server that has been working fine.
Suddenly last week it appears that nds is shutting down when my backup
starts. I say this because so far it only does this at night and the backup
is running.
The only change I made last week was to add the line CROSS_PROTOCOL_LOCKS 1
to the /etc/opt/novell/ncpserv.conf file based on some help offered in the
forum regarding a file locking issue some people got with office docs when
connected on wireless. The problem started after that so I went back to my
original ncpserv.conf where I just had oplocks set to 0. The nds shutting
(and not correctly either) still happens so I don't think it was that
change. We lose communication with NDS and if I try to stop the nds daemon i
get a message saying there was a previous incorrect shutdown. Restarting the
nds daemon resolves the immediate communication issue.

I am not that familiar with Linux so I am not sure which logs I should check
to try and figure out what is going on. This only started last week (after
that change) and the server has been in place for about 9 months.
