    Overcommit memory

While starting an update from HP called HPsum off the dvd drive to check for driver updates, my server, which is an ml350p gen8, 8gb ram, appeared to lockup. After a power off and back on, it came up fine. I talked with Novell on this and basically was told it was the overcommit memory using oom-killer. I attached a file with the message log info when it happened. This is the first time this ever happened to any of my servers. Has anyone else experienced this situation and besides adding memory to the system, what can be done to combat this from happening? The link is for a tid that they gave me to explain the overcommit process.

    Thanks for any insight
