Howdy y'all,

A Novell Client running 4.83 SP3 with patches on XP Pro SP3, fully patched, had local disk problems. One of the desktop techs used XP Recovery Console to run CHKDSK, which repaired the disk errors. However, something happened, and permissions on several objects were changed, and several critical services like RPC wouldn't start. Nor would any services dependent on RPC, like Print Spooler.

I found an article that recommended running the following from a command prompt:

sfc /purgecache
sfc /scanonce

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

Services were restored, but now can't log in with the Novell Client. The error message is "A domain controller could not be found for the" but the user is also prompted to sync the Novell password with the local Windows password. Authentication is only to NDS and AD is not in use in this departmental network so no domain is present.

Looks like we're gonna hafta replace the local disk and reinstall the Novell Client. But we can't get past the login dialog displayed by the Novell Client. The only other control on the dialog is the Workstation only checkbox.

I found an article about a script that will remove the 4.83 Client. Could run that from Safe Mode, but wanted to check with you specialists before trying anything.

Thanks kindly.
