So can you telent to port 524 on the servers IP? How about 389/636?
I.e. Is it really listening for NCP and LDAP.

If you ssh to the server, what does

show? Doe sit have a configured eDir instance?

If you have IDM installed, try 'dxcmd' on that server and try to login.

The thing SLES does is annoying.
