    ndsrepair messages

In an old OES2 SP3 environment, every server with eDirectory on it (with
or without replica's), have the following messages in ndsd.log.

    May 27 21:10:32 Repair utility for Novell eDirectory 8.8 - 8.8 SP7
    v20705.00 Successfully loaded
    May 27 21:10:32 Repair utility for Novell eDirectory 8.8 - 8.8 SP7
    v20705.00 Successfully unloaded

This is repeated every 30 seconds, non stop. Does anybody have an idea
what can cause this? Or even better, how to get rid of it?

    Regards,

    Tony

Something on your system is loading ndsrepair every thirty seconds.
That's very abnormal, but I'd check a cron job or something similar either
in /etc/crontab, /etc/cron.d, or run 'crontab -e' as the user owning the
    eDirectory instance (usually 'root').

Nothing I can find in cron. It would have been surprising if there has
been something in a way, as cron uses a minute as the smallest time unit
and not 30 seconds. Have unloaded cron and imonitor on one of the
    servers, messages keep on coming.

There is a Nagios server somewhere, will have to check if that is
    running eDirectory actions on it.

Yes, that's the next place to look. Or, if it's Nagios, you might look in
    the local machine's NRPE configuration.

There once was a utility called edirmon (as I recall) that would get
information regularly and keep track of eDir for you. Ever used that?

Bingo, edirmon is indeed loaded, and running in 30 second intervals.
Have never used it before, and am new to this particular eDirectory.
Will disable it for the moment, as we don't use it. One mystery solved.

Thank you very much for the help.

As a follow up, removing edirmon solved about 95% of all problems in
    that eDirectory environment.

    Re: ndsrepair messages

Good follow-up; thank-you for providing it.

edirmon, while giving good information, is pretty intensive in what it
does to provide that information. I also do not know that it has been
tested with the latest few SPs of eDirectory, so there may be growing
issues as eDirectory changes to add new functionality.
