No, I do not think you can modify the placement of the files while they
are still being written (.open files). A few options MAY work for you,
in order of decreasing supportability:

First, build a box without the appliance, or using the ISO appliance.
The appliance is made to be easy, but enjoys the easy side of the
classic easy/customized tradeoff for everything in life.

Second, you could try to grow the appliance's hard drive disk file, and
then grow the filesystem as well. I do not know how to grow the file
(depends on your type of VM) but once done you can grow the filesystem
using the standard ext3 tools.

Third, you could make sure there is no minimum time for data to be in
local storage, or make it as short as possible (a week or maybe a couple
of days at least) and then give the application a tighter restriction on
how much space can be used for Sentinel data. This should cause the
local data to be removed more quickly leaving only the network data.
The trick is being sure you do not make your restrictions so small that
it interferes with the original data collection.

Fourth you could actually setup the machine to have
/var/opt/novell/sentinel/data as a mountpoint directly to your SAN so
the data are always on network storage. This is not ideal, but it's an
option.

Good luck.
