A user complained that some files and folders on OS X did no synchronize
with the desktop client for OS X. Try and error showed that this was due
to special characters like '|' in file names. OS X together with HPFS is
quite liberal with regard to special characters with the notable
exception of ':'.
Playing with the Filr web pages I noticed that it will now allow
renaming a file or folder with one of the characters '\ / : * ? " < > |'
seemingly following the restrictions for NTFS on Windows. To my
knowledge the underlying NSS file system hast no such restrictions.
So my guess is that the desktop client for OS X will not accept files
with these characters also in order to allow for sharing with Windows
users. Am I right here? Also any hint on a TID or a chapter in the
documentation on this topic will be much appreciated.
