I have an SLES 11 SP3 / OES11 SP2 eDirectory environment with 5 physical
servers of which 4 have an eDirectory replica of ROOT which is the only
partition in the tree. I want to use dsbk to back up eDirectory.
Because I have multiple servers, I need to set up roll-forward logging.
I have read the "NetIQ eDirectory 8.8 SP8 Administration Guide" and
specifically the section on 'Backing up and Restoring NetIQ eDirectory'
but I still have some questions.

1. Do I need to set up roll-forward logging on all of the servers or
only the servers with an eDirectory replica?

2. All these servers are set up with multiple disks in a RAID5 array.
I don't have space to add a separate disk to each server locally for the
roll-forward logs like the docs say. I assume that an external USB
drive connected to the server would be too slow for a location for the
roll-forward logs, right? What about using an iSCSI target for the
roll-forward logs disk?

3. In the section of the docs on the prerequisites for using DSBK, it
says that you should create an /etc/dsbk.conf file and specify the
location of a temporary file in the .conf file. Don't I need a
parameter name such as "InstallDir=" or "Location=" ? Here is the

On Linux, make sure to do the following:

1. Create a file dsbk.conf in /etc.

2. Create a temporary file. For example, /tmp/dsbk.tmp.

3. Specify the location of the temporary file created in the
previous step in the /etc/dsbk.conf file.

Using the above example, would I just put "/tmp/dsbk.tmp" all by itself
in the .conf file??

4. As for stream files, what stream files do people usually back up?
