I am about to come up with a solution for how to back up IdM. According
to the eDirectory documentation, a couple of solutions are available.

1. ndsbackup - nice for restoring single objects or an entire OU for
2. dsbk - nice for a disaster recovery where the entire directory needs
to be restored
3. SMS (Storage Management Services)

There is a lot of information on option 1 and 2, but not so much on 3.

I would like to know what you guys usually do and what you recommend.

From what I read, most people use a combination of 1 and 2, I can't find
anything on someone using SMS. I have no idea if SMS is actually good
and how I would go about using it. Does anyone have experience with

Right now I am thinking about using 1 and 2. More detailed plan:

1. On all eDirectory servers and the UA server create a new partition
for backup and have that partition backed up by the customers backup
system, for example /IDM-Backup
2. Do a daily ndsbackup of entire eDirectory with crontab
3. Since we have replicas, enable RFL (Roll-forward logging) on
eDirectories and do a daily dsbk with crontab (and clean up old RFL logs
in the process)
4. On UA server, do a daily pg_dump of the PostgreSQL database with

What do you guys to and what can you recommend?
