I just installed eDirectory 9 as root on a test RHEL 7.3 system. After
running ndsconfig, I get the following error:

Code:

Configuring the NDAP interfaces... Done
Configuring the HTTP interfaces... Done
Configuring the LDAP interfaces... Done

Configuring NetIQ eDirectory server with the following parameters, Please wait...

Configuration File : /etc/opt/novell/eDirectory/conf/nds.conf
Instance Location : /var/opt/novell/eDirectory/data
DIB Location : /var/opt/novell/eDirectory/data/dib

Current env file will be backed-up in format env.current_date, any customizations done to env file need to be copied back to new env file from backed-up file.
Starting the service 'ndsd'... Error: Cannot start 'ndsd', start manually.

ERROR: ndsconfig return value = 10.
--------------------

I try to manually start it with "ndsmanage startall" and get this:

Code:
--------------------
Server instances management utility for NetIQ eDirectory 9.0.2 v40004.54
There are no instances configured.
cat: /etc/opt/novell/eDirectory/conf//.edir/instances.0: No such file or directory
--------------------

I tried manually creating
/etc/opt/novell/eDirectory/conf/.edir/instances.0 and put the absolute
path to nds.conf. I try "ndsmanage startall" again and get:

Code:
--------------------
Server instances management utility for NetIQ eDirectory 9.0.2 v40004.54
Instance at /etc/opt/novell/eDirectory/conf/nds.conf.....

Warning: ndsdtmpl-etc-opt-novell-eDirectory-c...onf-env.service changed on disk. Run 'systemctl daemon-reload' to reload units.
Job for ndsdtmpl-etc-opt-novell-eDirectory-c...onf-env.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status ndsdtmpl-etc-opt-novell-eDirectory-c...onf-env.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

Running "systemctl daemon-reload" shows no output and doesn't fix it.
Here are the outputs for "ndsdtmpl-etc..." and "journalctl -xe":
